Annual Gupot Fanha'aniyan Pulan Chamoru (Chamorro Lunar Calendar Festival)

  • Start Date : February 10, 2013
  • End Date : February 10, 2013
  • Location : Hagatna, Guam (Chamorro Village/Paseo Park)
  • Each year, Gupot Fanha'aniyan Pulan Chamoru (Chamorro Lunar Calendar Festival) is held to educate the community on the significance of the moon for the Chamorro people who have inhabited Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands for over 4,000 years. It is said that the lunar movement synchronizes the life cycles of the flora and fauna of the islands and ocean. The ancient Chamorros, being seafaring people, relied on phases of the moon to guide daily activities. Modern Chamorro traditions and cultural values have evolved from these practices, which encourage living in respect and harmony with the island environment and its resources.
