Lujan House

The Guam Preservation Trust and the Department of Parks and Recreation have beautifully and painstakingly restored the José P. Lujan House, located in Hagåtña. It received recognition by the National Register and Guam Register of Historic Places in 1977. An early 1900's structure, the Lujan House first served as a private residence before it was turned into a school called the Guam Institute. The architecture, manposteria walls, wooden floors and ifil wood framing, and high ceilings on the second floor make for an informative and interesting stop on anyone's itinerary, but be forewarned, there's no interpretative signage.

Other historic houses in Hagåtña include those owned by the Martinez-Notley, Rosario, Dungca, Ungacta, Shimizu, and Garrido families. The Dungca House is privately owned and is being inhabited by a local family, so view this home from the road.

How to get there: Take Route 1/Marine Corps Drive south and make the loop at the Chief Quipuha Park to get to Route 4. While on Route 4 take a right at the second intersection on to West O'Brien Drive. The houses are near the area surrounding Padre Palomo Street.
