The first four of this month's hikes feature locations that will be closed with the
planned military buildup.  Join our efforts to keep our trails open and to protect our
heritage.

Every Saturday, Guam Boonie Stompers offers public hikes to a variety of
destinations such as beaches, snorkeling sites, waterfalls, mountains, caves,
latte sites, and World War II sites. We meet at 9:00 AM in the Center Court
of Chamorro Village in Hagatna. The cost is $2.00 for hikers over 12.
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Hikers should provide
their owntransportation. Guam’s trails are not developed. Weather conditions
can makethe hikes more difficult than described. No reservations required.

Pagat Cave

January 1

First Sunrise of the decade at Mt. Jumullong Manglo and Mt. Lamlam
 
Difficulty Rating: Difficult
 
Duration: 4 hours for 3 miles
 
We meet at Cetti Bay Overlook on Route 2, Agat to Umatac Highway, at 5 AM to hike in the dark for the sunrise and then option to Mt Lamlam. Bring: FLASHLIGHTS, 3 quarts water, hiking boots, sun screen, sunglasses, insect repellent, lunch, and camera. Special conditions: Hiking over rough rocks and a long ascent.

 
Ague Cove
January 8

Lajuna
 
Difficulty Rating: Dificult
 
Duration: 4+ hours for 4 miles
We descend the northeastern cliff to the coastline and head north for a view of the massive landslide from the 1993 earthquake.. Bring: 4 quarts water, hiking boots, sun screen, sunglasses, insect repellent, lunch, and camera. Special conditions: Hiking over rough rocks and a long ascent.
 

Lajuna
January 15

Agua Cove
 
Difficulty Rating: Easy
 
Duration: 3 hours for 1 mile
We descend to a cove ideal for swimming and snorkeling if the water is calm. Bring: 2 quarts water, hiking boots, swim suit, snorkel gear, sun screen, sunglasses, insect repellent, lunch, and camera. Special conditions: A steep slope to ascend and a few rough rocky trail areas.


Mt LamLam

January 22

Pagat Loop
 
Difficulty Rating: Difficult
 
Duration: 4 hours for 2.5 miles
We journey to Pagat Point and then head to the ancient Chamorro village and cave. Bring: 3 quarts water, hiking boots, gloves, sun screen, sunglasses, insect repellent, and camera. Special conditions: Streches of steep climbing, walking in cave water, and over rough limestone rocks.


January 29

Dante River

Difficulty Rating: Very Difficult
 
Duration: 6 hours for 6 miles
Explore teh stream leading up to Dante Falls in Southeastern Guam. Bring: 4 quarts water, hiking boots, gloves, sun screen, insect repellent, lunch, and camera. Special conditions: Swordgrass, steep slopes, and walking in water.
